Júlio B. Bastos Alicante Bouschet Red
This wine is a tribute to my father, Julio Bastos. It is a wine that results from the selection of the best grapes from the old vineyards of Alicante Bouschet, which were trodden in marble wineries and vinified with controlled temperatures. The stage is made in new French oak barrels for 14 months. The wine has an opaque and violaceous ruby color, with pure aromas of china ink, liquorice, notes of wild and balsamic fruits. The grapes selected by hand, after the removal of the respective film, are cooled by a thermal shock of 10 ° C. The grapes, exclusively from the Encruzado variety, were harvested manually in the second week of September for small boxes of 18 kg, according to a careful selection of the best grapes in the vineyard. The decanted and pressed grape must decanted at low temperature in small stainless steel tanks for 48 hours. After being cleaned it was fermented in French oak barrels of 500L. During the fermentation was done battonage, the wine remained in the barrels for another 5 months. Color clear, with greenish citrus lavas. Delicate aroma with notes of lemon, green apple and dried linden flower. In the mouth we find the same fresh fruit and the typical crusty minerality in balance with fresh acidity.

Produced mostly from grapes from Quinta da Fonte Branca, near Lamego and belonging to the Symington family.

After slight crushing the grapes are subjected to a thermal shock, followed by passing through a traditional vertical press. The wort is transferred to small capacity wine tanks with temperature control. The grape varieties are vinified separately. The wine stems on the lees for seven months. As a result of traditional pressing, the wine has an intense greenish color. In it we can find the vibrant acidity of Arinto combined with the living fruit of the Rabigato. The mouth surprises by the density and freshness.
