The first known historical references about Quinta da Pellada appear around 1570. The Demarcated region of Dão was established in 1908, framed by three mountainous massifs – Buçaco, Caramulo and Serra da Estrela – that preserve it from the Atlantic winds. they provide very special weather conditions and Álvaro Castro is one of the best Portuguese producers and the undisputed leader in his region of Dão. Discover Textura da Estrela Tinta Pinheira, a unique wine from Serra da Estrela, grown at 450 meters of altitude on granite soils. This 35-year-old vineyard gives life to Tinta Pinheira, or Rufete, a rare grape variety that gives distinction to this Dão nectar.
Vinified using a method that combines whole and de-stemmed bunches, it ferments in stainless steel with minimal extraction, followed by 16 months in 225 liter barrels. This artisanal process highlights the purity and complexity of the wine.
It presents a luminous color, reddish pink, fruity aromas with touches of spices such as cloves and vegetal nuances. Aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, and is marketed after aging for at least another 12 months in bottle. Coming from vineyards under 20 years old, the reds are made in open ponds with footsteps (like all reds in Mouchão) and with 100% stems. It presents an intense red - garnet color, concentrated aroma of black fruits and spices, with delicate floral touch, structured and rich palate with fruit, acidity and tannins in perfect balance. Harvest by hand. Na old vineyard with 40 years old. 100% stems. Maceration in lagar. Fermentation occurred naturally, under indigenous yeast for 15 days with light stomping to allow good color extraction. In the end of the fermentation, the grape must was transferred to a small stainless steel vat where it remained until bottling. All process was led without the least human intervention, with minimum quantities of external products, from the vineyard to the finish line, the bottling. Medium ruby color. Red fruits aroma combined with some spices like black pepper. A fresh and young wine, true to self, with structure and exuberant finish. This wine is quite versatile, combining the wild and rustic side without oak influence, with the fresh fruit and the wonderful acidity from the terroir. Pairs perfectly with roasted meat dishes, dried nuts, mushroom and soft cheeses. Contains Sulfites.
