Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia, in the 1930s, it passed the ban on the production of Porto wines outside Vila Nova de Gaia, to sell Bairrada table wines. At the end of the 50’s, one of the most famous wine brands in the Bairrada region – the “Frei João” – was born and, a little later, the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the Dão region. Total destemming and pressing. Selection of grape must and post cooling and decantation at low temperature. Fermentation in stainless steel vats with temperature and around 15ºC for 20 days. About 15% of the wine ferment and age for 6 months in a 500L French oak barrel. The barrel aging allowed this wine to stand out from all its most mineral characteristics. Floral in aroma, but in harmony with the barrel, this wine is very complete, with a remarkable volume and structure from the first taste. The citrus notes and the minerality, give freshness to the wine, keeping the aftertaste vibrant and long. Contains sulfites.
Florbela White

The grapes were harvested by hand into small boxes of 20 kg. The composition of the blend varies with the production of each variety in the vineyard. The grapes were cooled at the entrance to the cellar and immediately pressed. The resulting must decanted in low temperature stainless steel tanks and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks in order to preserve all the natural aromas and flavors of the grapes that give rise to them. The result is a lemon yellow wine, with tropical notes of mango, pineapple and citrus. In the mouth it is balanced, with a lively acidity and a refreshing finish. Contains Sulfites.
Chocapalha Reserva White

Fermentation took place during 18 days at low temperatures in French oak barrels. After fermentation, the wine staged in the same barrels in contact with the fine lees, during 9 months, with "batonnage". Great intensity of color, it presents an excellent balance, good acidity and minerality. A very elegant wine, fresh and with a long finish of mouth. Contains Sulfites.
Papa Figos Red

After destemming and crushing, the grapes are sent to stainless steel vats, where the films are macerated - gently and at controlled temperatures - and alcoholic fermentation. After finishing fermentations, maturation in stainless steel and cement vats follows. The batch is prepared based on the tests and analyzes carried out during this period. To preserve the highest quality, it is only subjected to light gluing and filtration before bottling. Ruby color, intense aroma, with heather bush notes, floral aromas, fresh red fruits and some balsamic, such as resin and cedar. In the mouth it has a smooth attack, presenting polished tannins of good quality, notes of red fruits and some spices. The finish is very elegant. Contains Sulfites.
