Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia, in the 1930s, it passed the ban on the production of Porto wines outside Vila Nova de Gaia, to sell Bairrada table wines. At the end of the 50’s, one of the most famous wine brands in the Bairrada region – the “Frei João” – was born and, a little later, the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the Dão region. Granitic soils, altitude, sustainable farming practices and zero herbicides are just the beginning of this unique rosé wine. In Vila Nova de Tazem (Serra da Estrela sub-region) a 28-year-old vine of 100% hand-harvested Tinta Roriz grows. The commitment since 2020 to an option for organic farming in all our vineyards. The tear must ferments with indigenous yeasts in used 225 L French oak barrels. The wine ages for 11 months “sur lie” without batonnage and another 8 months in stainless steel. Naturally stabilized, it may show turbidity or deposit. A rosé wine with a more concentrated color, onion skin with hints of copper. Delicate aromas of red fruits and fermentation, like brioche. In the mouth, it has remarkable acidity and minerality, with touches of spices, especially black pepper. It has a dense yet elegant texture, quite salivating at the end as it calls for food. Extremely gastronomic. Contains sulfites.
Quinta de Lemos Rose

This wine is obtained after direct pressing of Touriga Nacional red grapes. All alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 13ºC. A pale, fine and appealing rose water hue. Delicate aroma of floral notes of red fruits, strawberries and raspberries. Mouth voluminous and attractive, easy with a long, persistent and addictive finish. Contains sulfites.
Quinta do Vallado Touriga Nacional Magnum Red

The grapes were vinified in 5 and 10 ton stainless steel vats with controlled temperature and programmed pumping over. After malolactic fermentation, all wines were transferred to 225 L French oak barrels where they remain for about 16 months. 45% new barrels and 55% used barrels. Very concentrated, with balsamic notes of oak wood, very ripe red fruits and violet. Very balanced flavor, high concentration of red fruit, with ripe and round tannins and a long and fresh finish. Contains sulfites.
