Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia, in the 1930s, it passed the ban on the production of Porto wines outside Vila Nova de Gaia, to sell Bairrada table wines. At the end of the 50’s, one of the most famous wine brands in the Bairrada region – the “Frei João” – was born and, a little later, the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the Dão region. Contains Sulfites.

After cold maceration for two days, the must ferments under permanent temperature control. The wine is then placed to mature for 12 months in French wooden barrels. Deep live garnet color. Aroma complex of ripe fruit, delicate and elegant bouquet. Fruit expression, concentrate with prolonged end and storage potential. Contains Sulfites.
