Caves São João Reserva Particular 1959 Red
213,57 €
Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia, in the 1930s, it passed the ban on the production of Porto wines outside Vila Nova de Gaia, to sell Bairrada table wines. At the end of the 50’s, one of the most famous wine brands in the Bairrada region – the “Frei João” – was born and, a little later, the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the Dão region. Contains Sulfites.

Opaque ruby colored wine with violet hints. In the nose it is very intense, with notes of black fruit, blackberries, black currant jam, ripe wild red fruit and a slight balsamic to transmit freshness. In the mouth, the aromatic sensations are repeated, with the flavors of dried fig, ripe red fruits and a slight blueberry flavor. Powerful and very polished tannins, but thanks to its acidity, it is fresh and very persistent. Due to its structure, complexity and acidity, it will evolve over the next 50 years.

The grapes were again selected on the carpet of choice, cooled to the entrance of the cellar and immediately pressed. Part of the resulting wort was transferred to new French oak barrels, where it completed the fermentation and where it remained about 6 months. The rest of the wine, about 3/5, fermented and staged only in stainless steel. Citrus yellow color, floral aroma with light toasted notes and perception of granite. In the mouth it is unctuous with citric notes and a lively acidity. Ends long and vibrant.
