The grapes from several very old vineyards in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro (Mêda) were pressed in whole bunches, in order to extract the freshest and most vibrant must possible. Keeping the origin of each vineyard, the musts followed the alcoholic fermentation in new 500L French oak barrels. Fermentation process from indigenous yeasts, brings more complexity and character to wines. Long maturation on total lees (12 months). Malolactic partials make up the Burgundian-inspired route. Lightly pressed grapes with whole bunch. The resulting must was fermented in used barrels, followed by regular batonnage until the date of bottling. Tartaric and protein stabilization achieved naturally during an extended 10-month aging in a barrel. 1440 bottles were produced. Aromas of red, floral fruit. Suggestions of vanilla, brioche and spice add aromatic complexity. In the mouth it shows to be an elegant wine, full of minerality and freshness, reflecting well the calcareous soils from which it comes. It is simultaneously a deep, structured and complex wine.
