Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia, in the 1930s, it passed the ban on the production of Porto wines outside Vila Nova de Gaia, to sell Bairrada table wines. At the end of the 50’s, one of the most famous wine brands in the Bairrada region – the “Frei João” – was born and, a little later, the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the Dão region. Reguengos Trifolium Grande Reserva White

After the selection of the grapes in the vineyards of our associates, the manual harvest is carried out. In the cellar they are unloaded and immediately destemmed and crushed, followed by skin maceration (about 12 hours) in order to extract all the aromatic compounds from the film. Subsequently, the grapes are pressed with oxidation protections from which the tear must is extracted which, after static clarification, starts the fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures (15/16º) and is then transferred to French oak half barrels.
After fermentation, the wine undergoes a process of “batonnage” in the barrels for a few months, followed by aging until the end of winter, at which time it is removed from the barrels, blended and stabilized, proceeding to its filling in early spring. Wine with a crystalline appearance, defined straw color, fruity aroma with ripe tropical notes, dried fruits and honey, structured and unctuous in a fresh, complex set, with a long and persistent finish. Contains sulfites.
Soalheiro Alvarinho Magnum White

An intense, elegant wine with volume. Beginning at the end of August, this harvest was the earliest ever harvested in Soalheiro, but it demonstrated an exceptional balance between the fruit and the acidity of the Alvarinhos of the unique terroir of Monção and Melgaço. The grapes, exclusively from the Alvarinho variety, are harvested manually in small capacity boxes and transported to the winery in a short time. After pressing, the decanted wort is decanted for 48 hours, followed by controlled temperature fermentation, using pre-selected yeasts for this purpose. The bottling takes place after the stabilization of the wine, followed by a bottle stage. The Alvarinho Soalheiro winemaking is directed to obtain a wine that concentrates the quality of the grapes and allows a good evolution after the bottling. Citrus yellow color, aroma with the profile of Alvarinho Soalheiro Classical, intense and tropical with mineral notes. Contains Sulfites.
