Founded in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, Caves São João is a family business that was originally dedicated to the marketing of fine Douro wines and liqueurs. Today, the oldest family-run wine company still operating in the municipality of Anadia, in the 1930s, it passed the ban on the production of Porto wines outside Vila Nova de Gaia, to sell Bairrada table wines. At the end of the 50’s, one of the most famous wine brands in the Bairrada region – the “Frei João” – was born and, a little later, the “Porta dos Cavaleiros” brand from the Dão region. The grapes were harvested manually, transported in 20 kg boxes and selected on a sorting table. 70% destemmed and 30% whole bunch. Fermentation occurred spontaneously, followed by 40 days of maceration. Aged for 8 months in French oak barrels. Open ruby color. Intense nose, notes of crushed fresh strawberry, some vegetable. Fresh attack, textured, good acidity, repeating the aromas of the nose. Great persistence.

Quinta D'Amares Vinesa Loureiro, fermented with partial contact with the films and aged for 4 months with battonage in French oak barrels. The oak aging gave it a greater complexity of aromas, gaining a good structure with a vibrant acidity that gives it great longevity. Intense aroma with notes of dried and smoked flowers, full-bodied and with vibrant acidity.

The grapes, from our Quinta da Cabreira, in - Douro Superior, were transported in food plastic boxes and subjected to rigorous sorting at the entrance to the cellar. After a complete destemming and a slight crushing, the must was transferred to fermentation vats in stainless steel with controlled temperature. It aged in French oak barrels, where it remained for about 16 months. With a rich ruby color, with an excellent aromatic expression that surprises on the nose for the intense floral notes, well integrated with aromas of ripe wild fruits and fine spice. In the mouth it starts in a harmonious way, evolving into a wine of great seriousness, where we find a compact structure, with fine texture tannins. Finishes elegant and with excellent presence. Contains Sulfites.
Quinta da Biaia Reserva Red

Fresh grapes at their ideal point of ripeness, hand-picked into 20 kg boxes, are transported to the cellar where they are destemmed and slightly crushed. Pre-fermentation maceration for 10 days. Fermentation over 14 days in stainless steel and aging in French oak barrels for 32 months. A wine that impresses with its extraordinary freshness and complexity, with notes of wild berries, pine, resin, licorice, coffee and tobacco leaf. In the mouth, a wine with a very solid structure, rich and fresh, with silky tannins.
