Quinta do Mouro Red 2019 – A Distinctive Alentejo Classic

Born in Estremoz, in the heart of Alentejo, Quinta do Mouro Red 2019 is a wine that challenges conventions. Produced from vines planted at 450 meters altitude, where the continental Mediterranean climate provides significant temperature variation, this wine elegantly expresses the character of its terroir composed of schist, marble, and limestone soils.

The blend of Alicante Bouschet (35%), Aragonez (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Touriga Nacional (10%), and Trincadeira (10%) creates a deeply structured red, yet surprisingly fresh and mineral.

Winemaking follows artisanal detail: manual harvest, foot-treading in lagares for three days, cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, and 14 months of ageing in 300L Portuguese oak barrels, half new, half used. It is then aged in bottle for at least 3 years before reaching the consumer.

Tasting notes: Intense ruby colour. On the nose, it shows austerity, complexity, and elegance. Deep aromas of pure black fruit, vegetal nuances, and hints of dried herbs and fine spices. On the palate, it impresses with firm structure, vibrant acidity, and dense yet polished tannins, ending with a long and persistent finish.
