Mouchão Tonel no. 3-4 Red
Made only in exceptional vintages, Mouchão Tonel no. 3-4 Red represents the ultimate expression of Alicante Bouschet from the historic Carapetos vineyard at Herdade do Mouchão, in Portugal’s Alentejo region Honouring a winemaking tradition that spans over a century, the grapes are hand-harvested, foot-trodden in large open stone lagares and manually pressed. The wine then matures for four to five years in the estate’s legendary vats numbers 3 and 4, built from chestnut and oak staves with macacaúba and mahogany heads, followed by a further four years of bottle ageing before release.
Tasting Notes
Deep, intense garnet in colour. The nose reveals layers of dark fruit, ink and pencil lead, intertwined with black olive, cool mint and complex spice. On the palate, bold yet refined tannins carry a dense, lingering body with a striking freshness that belies its concentration. A wine built for decades of cellar ageing.
Pairing & Serving
Decant or open 12 to 24 hours before serving at 15 to 19 °C. Outstanding alongside grilled red meats, roasted game or long-aged hard cheeses. A collector’s wine and a worthy centrepiece for occasions that call for something truly memorable.
