Furtiva Lagrima Red

Discover Furtiva Lagrima Red, an exceptional wine from the Montargil region, Portalegre, in Alentejo. Influenced by the cool, humid microclimate created by the proximity to the Montargil dam and rooted in pebble soils, this wine reflects the rich river history of the area. Produced only in exceptional years, Furtiva Lagrima is a limited edition that highlights the best of the Alicante Bouschet grape variety and the Monte da Raposinha terroir.
Careful vinification begins with a rigorous thinning of bunches, ensuring limited production to maximize quality. Manual harvesting and meticulous selection in 15 kg boxes precede alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel lagares, followed by a 23-month aging period in new French oak barrels. The final batch is a careful selection of the best barrels.
Furtiva Lagrima Tinto (or Fvrtiva Lagrima) offers a penetrating aroma of black fruit, with balsamic and spicy notes, complemented by a harmonious integration of barrel notes. In the mouth, it reveals itself to be voluminous and concentrated, with polished tannins and a persistent elegance, culminating in a delicate and long finish. Ideal to accompany meat, game, cheese and sausage dishes, this wine elevates any meal and it is recommended to decant it beforehand for a full experience.

Vineyards installed on red soils derived from brown or crystalline limestone, with patches of schist, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate with high temperature ranges and hot, dry summers. After the necessary early interventions during the growing season, the grapes were harvested manually and transported to the winery in small boxes. Once malolactic fermentation was completed, the wine was partially aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd year French and American oak barrels. After bottling, it rested in bottles for 2 months in our cellar. To preserve all its qualities, this wine has not been stabilized and can naturally deposit. Clear wine, violet red, aromas of cherry, blackberry, spices and floral notes. Structured, balanced and voluminous, with a full body and persistent finish. Contains sulfites.

In 2015 we enjoyed long and slow maturations that our older strains and our best plots have taken advantage of to provide grapes with an exemplary balance between acidity and tannins. The two grape varieties that benefited most with the exceptional goodness of nature were Syrah and Alicante Bouschet, providing grapes in perfect maturity. With raw material so good we prefer to work them little, letting the grapes speak for themselves. That's why we did little more than one walk on our wineries, according to the most traditional methods of the region, followed by a stage in new barrels and barrels of second year of French oak, letting the wine express itself in the purest form .
