Description

Kopke Colheita 2008 Tawny – Port Wine

Kopke Colheita 2008 Tawny is an exceptional Port Wine, produced by one of the most traditional houses in Portugal. From a single harvest, this fortified wine has been carefully vinified and aged to provide a unique sensory experience. With a tawny brown color and reddish highlights, this wine is the perfect expression of the art of making Port Wines.

Winemaking & Aging

The grapes used in the production of Kopke Colheita 2008 Tawny are hand-harvested at their optimal ripeness. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, starting the winemaking process with careful maceration to extract color, tannins, and aromas from the skins. Fermentation takes place in lagares at a controlled temperature (28-30ºC) and is interrupted by the addition of grape brandy, resulting in a high-quality fortified wine. This wine is aged in wood for a minimum period of 7 years, developing complexity that is reflected in its character and elegance.

Tasting Notes

Kopke Colheita 2008 Tawny presents a rich and intense nose, with prominent aromas of ripe syrupy fruit, spices, and dried fruits. On the palate, it is delicate and balanced, with a harmonious combination of sweetness, tannins, and acidity. Its enveloping texture culminates in a long and irresistible finish, making this wine a refined choice for connoisseurs of high-class Port Wines.

Serving Recommendations

This Port Wine should be served slightly chilled, between 12-14ºC, to fully express its sophistication. It is the perfect pairing for desserts based on caramel, dried fruits, and spices. Its harmony with dishes such as caramel fondant with apple and ginger jelly, tarte tatin, crème brûlée, or medium-intensity cheeses is unquestionable, making it a versatile and elegant choice for various occasions.

Vineyard and Soil

The vineyards that produce Kopke Colheita 2008 Tawny are planted on horizontal terraces, following the natural contours of the land, using a modern technique known as “Vinha ao Alto”. The soil is predominantly pre-Ordovician greywacke schist, with some granite formations, providing ideal conditions for growing the grapes that give rise to this unique wine.

Altitude
The vineyards are located at altitudes reaching 600 meters, offering a perfect microclimate for developing grapes with the freshness needed to create a Port Wine with excellent structure and complexity.
