Barca Velha 2008 has a ruby ??color of great depth. Its aroma is intense and of excellent complexity, with saliency for the bright red fruits, spices like pepper and clove, balsamic notes to cedar, resin and tobacco box. Also note the notes of asparagus and artichokes, sous-bois and the aromas of wood of excellent quality and in perfect harmony. In the mouth it has an excellent volume, lively and well integrated acidity, intense tannins and notes of red fruits, pepper, cloves and ginger. Its end is extraordinarily long, elegant and harmonious.
Although ready to consume at the time of its presentation, Barca Velha 2008 has a long guarding potential and evolves positively in a bottle that should be kept lying down. The apogee? Perhaps 15-20 years after harvest, but it is expected to remain "alive" for an undetermined period. Ideally, the bottle should be placed "up" the day before and opened 2 to 3 hours before serving. With so many bottle years, the wine should be carefully decanted to separate its natural sediment.
